Web Pathway: Interaction Design: Phidgets

After this lecture on Phidgets, the flash based user interface, it got me thinking more and more about my final year. After been told the set shown was near enough £400 I decided purchasing the set wasn't a good idea, so I set about looking at working examples of the Phidgets. I found this, and it looks like a great idea, and I bet very easy to create. Enjoy!

Web Pathway: Web Applications

Recently in the Web Apps series of lectures we have been looking at databases and the ability to query them. I found these very simple to start off with, studying Computing at A-Level I've created more then enough database. This, is slightly different, even if maybe for the same purpose. I'm struggling slightly on the queries and the slightest of things that would make the database incomplete.
Hopefully this will be rectified soon before I need to implement it any further.

So today we looked at the various forms of pixel art and the skills required to develop an image. And, its bloody hard, it took me 45 minutes to create a house that looked remarkably like a Monopoly hotel.

So after the Web 2.0 we had a seminar based around setting up a server-based database [or more so a Wiki]. After a little guidance as to what to do, David Downes mentioned the name of the server we were using 'Maeda' and said to research the name, or more specifically John Maeda. I went onto my new found soure of knowledge, this been Wikipedia to find out a little more. I then became rather interested in one of his current projects; The Laws Of Simplicity

This lecture was based around the text used in websites and which ones are the best for which type of site.

We were given three tasks to complete, these were:

1. Find a web 'magazine' that you find easy to navigate and read.

2. Find a website that uses more then two dimensions of information

3. Create a Mac/Aqua style button [Use this link]

Web Pathway: Interaction Design

Interaction Design, now that is something I didn't think would be much to do with Web Design, and more for the Interactives Pathway. Wrong! In this, the summary of the first lecture I realised how wide the world wide web really is, and what you can do with it. This just keeps me thinking about what I want to do as a career after university.

So, this been the first lecture/seminar to the Web Design area of the Web Pathway and well, just the basics, full of links, websites and information on CSS, Rules & Regs, and Flash sites. Oh the visual enjoyment! I'm all giddy with excitement [what's wrong with me?!]

Web Pathway: Introduction

When I first thought of choosing the Web Pathway last May I didn't assume there would be things that I wasn't so keen on, but after todays lecture they are quite a few areas which could confuse/bore/frustrate me, which is nice. But, I don't think that I would be interested if there weren't any challenges. And if that wasn't enough, Adrian is leaving. Rubbish!
If things weren't complicated enough with timetables not working etc, they are 3 different areas to the Web Pathway, even though this is simpler then them all been rolled into one I bet I'll forget which is which.
All in all, I think I've chosen the correct pathway, phew.
